Sedum spectabile

Sedum spectabile, otherwise known as 'Stonecrop' or 'Ice Plant' belongs to the Crassulaceae family and originally came from Korea and China. In Northern Europe it is regarded as an autumnal plant but in Cyprus it begins to flower in June or July and likes a sunny position in the flower beds. It can also be grow successfully in a pot if you have a veranda or patio.
It is an excellent plant to grow in our gardens here requiring very little attention and although there are over 20 varieties listed, there seems to be only one variety available in Cyprus, which has pale pink flowers.  Cut off dead flower stems and unsightly dead stems in late autumn. In the spring it will start to emerge again from the earth showing off its wonderful grey green foliage, so it is best to mark where it is, so that you don't dig it up when cleaning up your flower beds.
